Skillways uses the URL of the Learning Management System (LMS) or portal
Access to specialized support, Helpdesk
Course assets: create courses that integrate a variety of media including video, PDF files, course notes, discussion groups, etc.
Mobile friendly: is mobile friendly so all courses can be completed from a variety of mobile devices
Integration: is available potentially with some LMS and associated applications
Syndication: integrate client branding into the site and customize the URL. Also have the option of white labeling the site – customizing the site for various partners without having to recreate content that is being used with other user groups.
Live Sessions: deliver live and/or pre-recorded. No integrated live session tool in Skillways, but Zoom links can be added to access outside of the platform
Ability to provide a course conclusion survey and pre-test assessment
Skillways passes back all graded activities to the LMS. In the future, a separate Skillways data API is on the roadmap for more detailed data access.
The Skillways platform is currently undergoing a VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template), which is a document that explains how information and communication technology (ICT) products such as software, hardware, electronic content, and support documentation meet (conform to) the Revised 508 Standards for IT accessibility.
Course and Content Creation
Ability to store online curriculum in modules for self-service and self-guided learning services
Create courses organized by module and lesson
Ability to attach a variety of file types: documents, spreadsheets, PowerPoint’s, images, photos, videos, pdfs. Note: Currently no attach feature for files in Skillways content editor. Links to files can be added.
Capabilities allowing content designers/developers to create once and publish to multiple formats, for multiple purposes
File uploads: student uploading of files related to activity
Features that support content co-creation, allow learners to inform (and not just be informed by) the content, or to allow learners to discuss the content e.g., comments, chat, discussion boards. Discussion tool in Skillways can serve this purpose or use of third-party tool such as Padlet, Voicethread. These 3PT activities cannot, however, be mapped or tracked unless integrated through LTI.
Add quizzes/assessments/surveys to any course
Future Skillways Designer plans to support some level of co-designer collaboration or presence to facilitate. Potential also for prior syndicated learning path data for activities to help inform revisions and reuse while designing new curriculum
Contest or gaming approach to reward participants. Credentialing via badges is one form that can be supported by both Skillways and the LMS as well.
Add interactive learning activities, including simulation, to any course
Ability to add or install third-party/open source solutions (i.e. progress bar, widgets, etc.)
Ability to create rubrics for activities
Administration
All user profile/provisioning is at the client institution level with LMS and related SIS, CRM etc enterprise apps
Ability for admin to create and maintain a profile and change passwords or user but not able to see current password
Ability to create separate learning environments for different user groups.
Reporting
Ability to report on learner completion of activities/grading
Ability to report on learner completion and performance of outcomes that are mapped to course activities
Progress and course completion of learners. Need to have this information be available to facilitators of the learners who are logging in participating in courses.
Retention information (why learners drop out, how long they participated prior to leaving a course, etc.). Skillways data informs this information.
Flexible levels of administrative functionality
Different accounts have different levels of access to reports; i.e. full administrators see all reports, etc
File Management, Collaboration, and Social Capabilities
Ability to post a question to a discussion thread
Provide Wiki functionality (using a third-party tool) to support team development of knowledge/resources, including the capability to export Wiki content as needed
Ability to add third-party tools for additional collaboration functionality
User Profiles
Allow users to engage with one another around topics and questions in discussion forums
Provide features allowing users to engage through audio/video conference by integrating with third-party tools to provide this capability
Search Functionality
Skillways provides a tagging system that allows for searching within learning paths from Designer
Survey/polling capabilities (or the ability to integrate with a third-party tool providing this capability)
Technical Requirements
Skillways uses LTI integration (or SCORM) in any LMS. All that is needed for Skillways is a browser. Any browser will work for Skillways. Specific computer requirements would apply to the LMS. See your LMS for specific computer requirements.
Allows a degree of flexibility in controlling user access to information
Provide a customizable user interface, including colors, brand, and navigational structures through the Themes feature
